Mads Berg is a Danish illustrator internationally recognized for his sophisticated retro-inspired poster art. Born in Denmark in 1975, Berg studied graphic design at the Danish Design School and later developed a distinctive visual language combining Art Deco influences, vintage advertising aesthetics, and modern digital illustration techniques. His work often evokes the glamour of mid-20th-century travel posters and classic magazine covers.
His artwork “Scooter Rider, Italy. (Vespa)” captures the timeless elegance of Italian scooter culture and the romantic atmosphere of the Mediterranean lifestyle. The illustration is characterized by clean geometric composition, soft pastel colours, and cinematic lighting — all trademarks of Berg’s style. Although no officially confirmed production year is widely documented, the print became especially popular during the 2010s through contemporary art editions.
The artwork reflects the cultural importance of the Vespa scooter in post-war Italy. The original Vespa was introduced in 1946, and its name — meaning “wasp” in Italian — came from the buzzing sound and slim shape of the prototype. Vespa later became a worldwide symbol of Italian freedom and elegance, especially after appearing in the classic film Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
