Copia del titolo
DESCRIZIONE
Antique Polyphon disc music box from the late 19th century, in very good working condition. Complete with 20 original metal discs, all with different melodies.
SUL POLYPHON
The Polyphon was manufactured by Polyphon Musikwerke in Leipzig, Germany — one of the most celebrated makers of mechanical music instruments during the Victorian era. This example retains its original decorative label inside the lid, depicting cherubs with musical instruments and the brand name "POLYPHON" in ornate lettering. The mechanism plate is stamped "Breveté S.G.D.G. Patent. – Patented" — the standard international patent designation used by Polyphon from the 1890s onward.
MECCANISMO
Music is produced by rotating metal discs whose punched projections pluck the teeth of a precision steel comb using the star-wheel system. The steel comb is protected by its original metal safety cover. The mechanism winds with a key and plays each disc fully before stopping. The mechanism plays correctly and is in good working order.
DISCHI
20 original metal discs, each 20.7 cm in diameter, each playing a different melody. Confirmed titles include "Radetzky Marsch" — one of the most iconic pieces in the Polyphon repertoire. All 20 discs are included and play on this machine.
CASE
Original walnut-veneered wooden case, 26 × 22 × 14 cm, with original brass hinges and hardware. Interior lid carries the original Polyphon decorative lithograph label in good condition. Exterior shows natural patina consistent with age.
A highly collectible piece for enthusiasts of mechanical music, Victorian-era antiques and German musical heritage.
