Japanese Kinma Urushi Lacquer Bunko Document Box – Kagawa Lacquerware – with Original Wooden Box This elegant Kinma (carved lacquer) bunko document box is a fine example of traditional Kagawa lacquerware, one of Japan's most celebrated lacquer crafts. The lid is decorated with an intricately carved and colored Kinma design featuring a symmetrical floral cross motif framed by richly scrolling arabesque patterns. The vivid vermilion carving contrasts beautifully with the deep black urushi lacquer, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship for which Kagawa lacquerware is renowned. Unlike suzuribako (writing boxes designed for inkstones), this piece was produced as a bunko (document box), intended for storing letters, documents, treasured papers, or personal keepsakes.
