About the estate This is quite simply one of the most legendary estates in the Côte de Beaune. The operation was founded in the 1920s by Pierre Ramonet—grandfather of the current owners, Noël and Jean-Claude—who quickly became a prominent figure in the Burgundy wine world. Indeed, he was already selling his wines to Michelin-starred restaurants and in the United States prior to the Second World War. His grandsons, Noël and Jean-Claude (representing the third generation), took over in 1984. They implemented better control over yields across the exceptional terroirs—such as Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and Montrachet—where their vineyards are located. The estate spans 17 hectares, covering the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Bouzeron, and Pernand-Vergelesses, and encompasses over 24 appellations. Chardonnay reigns supreme here, as white wines account for 70% of the estate's production. While the brothers' roles were once closely intertwined, a clear separation has since been established: Noël chose to focus on working the vines on his own plots, delivering the harvested grapes to his brother, who handles the winemaking, aging, and marketing for these wines as a *négociant* (merchant), alongside his own production. About the cuvée Montrachet is often regarded as the finest white wine in the world. It offers a remarkable concentration of the qualities found in great white Burgundies. Displaying a beautiful, vibrant golden hue, these wines—with rich, complex aromas reminiscent of hazelnut and honey—possess great body and firmness, yet also a supple texture, delivering intense, lingering flavors. This intensely concentrated wine requires many years to reach perfection. At its peak, Montrachet develops an unparalleled richness and aromatic complexity. The plot cultivated by Domaine Ramonet was acquired in 1975, and the estate's wines have since achieved international renown.
