Vassoi laccati di Takaoka - legno laccato - Giappone - Periodo Meiji (1868-1912)
A set of five Takaoka lacquer serving trays 膳 (zen), each of square form with rounded corners, finished in a warm reddish-brown lacquer.
The broad borders are deeply carved in relief with a pattern imitating plaited bamboo, while the raised rim is carved to resemble natural bamboo segments. At the centre of each tray is a five-lobed medallion resembling a stylised plum blossom (ume), left plain to beautifully contrast with the richly textured border.
Originating from Takaoka City (高岡市), the set reflects the refined craftsmanship for which the region is renowned. The trays are complete with their original inscribed wooden storage box (tomobako 共箱).
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912)
Dimensions: Length 27 cm, Width 26.5 cm, Height 1.8 cm.
The trays are in very good condition with minor traces of wear and light surface scratches consistent with age and use. The tomobako shows expected wear from storage. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.
When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
