Elegant mechanical perpetual desk calendar dating from the early 1950s, combining refined materials with the streamlined aesthetics of post-war European office design. The calendar features a cylindrical chrome-plated metal body mounted on a substantial base of beautifully veined Italian grey marble. The dark burgundy end pieces, controls and central support provide an attractive contrast to the polished metal and stone. Four individual windows display the day of the week, numerical date and month. The calendar is manually operated through the controls at either end of the cylinder, allowing the date to be adjusted indefinitely. The inscriptions are in French – including Samedi, Dimanche, Août and Septembre – indicating that this example was produced for the French-speaking market. Despite its compact dimensions, the heavy marble base gives the piece a substantial and luxurious presence, making it a particularly attractive 1950s executive desk accessory. The calendar is fully functional and very well preserved, with the day, date and month mechanisms operating correctly. Minor traces of age and use are consistent with an original object more than 70 years old. The underside of the marble base retains its protective black felt. Dimensions: approx. 15.5 × 5.5 × 6 cm.
