Stampo da caccia - Vintage Folk Art Mallard Duck – Hand-Carved & Finely Hand-Painted Wooden Sculpture – 26 cm – c. - Legno

Beautiful and highly decorative European Folk Art wooden duck, entirely hand-carved and finely hand-painted, dating approximately from the 1970s–1980s. The sculpture most likely represents a male Mallard – Anas platyrhynchos, one of the most recognisable European waterfowl species and historically the principal inspiration for traditional wooden hunting decoys. Unlike utilitarian hunting decoys, this example appears to have been conceived primarily as a decorative Folk Art sculpture, inspired by the forms of traditional waterfowl decoys but executed with considerably greater attention to its ornamental appearance. The body has been individually shaped from wood and subsequently decorated by hand. Particularly attractive is the carefully executed painted plumage, with numerous individual details giving the bird a lively and elegant character. The harmonious proportions, relatively light construction and refined manual decoration are characteristic of Italian and Southern European decorative production of the post-war period, when wooden animal sculptures became fashionable accessories for country houses, seaside residences, chalets and sophisticated rustic interiors. Because these pieces were individually carved and painted rather than industrially produced in identical moulds, considerable differences exist between surviving examples. Well-preserved specimens with particularly elaborate original decoration are increasingly difficult to find. Species: probably Mallard / Germano reale (Anas platyrhynchos) Origin: Italy / European Folk Art tradition Period: circa 1970–1980 Material: wood Technique: hand-carved and individually hand-painted Style: Folk Art / Mid-Century decorative art Dimensions: Length: 26 cm Height: 13 cm Depth: 11 cm Weight: 261 g The object retains its attractive vintage appearance and hand-finished character. Any minor irregularities or signs of age are consistent with handmade production and form part of the authentic character of the piece. A charming and increasingly collectible example of European Mid-Century Folk Art, particularly appealing to collectors of wooden bird sculptures, vintage animal figures, hunting-inspired objects and sophisticated country-house decoration. Carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
