Rare Medieval Silver Friesach & Vienna Pfennig Lot (2 pcs)
Condition: VF (Very Fine)
A wonderful and rarer medieval silver coin lot consisting of 1 Friesach pfennig and 1 Vienna pfennig. Both pieces are preserved in a pleasing VF condition, making them fantastic historical additions to any collection.
Historical Background:
The Friesach silver pfennigs were essentially the "dollars of the Middle Ages" in Central Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries. Minted by the Archbishops of Salzburg with high silver content, they were highly favored and trusted in the Kingdom of Hungary as well. The Vienna pfennigs (minted by the Babenbergs and early Habsburgs) dominated the regional trade in the following era with their distinct, often more squared shapes due to the traditional Viennese minting technique. Together, this pair is a tangible piece of medieval economic history and the flow of silver across the continent! Please examine the uploaded photos carefully.
