Ladislaus V (1444–1457) Silver Denár – Interesting Reverse Striking Error!
Condition: VF (Very Fine)
A truly unique and exciting medieval Hungarian silver denár from the reign of Ladislaus V (Ladislaus the Posthumous), preserved in a pleasing VF (Very Fine) condition. The special feature of this piece is the technical striking error visible on the reverse, making it a rare memento of medieval manual coin minting. Technical error coins have always been highly sought-after treats among numismatists, as each of these pieces is completely unique! Please examine the uploaded photos carefully.
Historical Background (When the Craftsman Makes a Mistake):
The life and short reign of Ladislaus V, the "Posthumous" boy king, were filled with drama and overshadowed by the bloody power struggles between the Hunyadi and Cillei families. Coin minting in this era was grueling physical labor: mint workers struck the denars between dies using massive hammer blows. Due to the fatigue of thousands of strikes a day, haste, or the slight shifting of the die, unique error pieces like this sometimes left the mint. Although the chamberlains strictly controlled quality, this coin slipped through the cracks and entered everyday circulation in the 1450s. This small silver coin is not only a currency from the era of the Triumph of Belgrade but also an exciting, tangible "mistake" made by a 15th-century medieval craftsman!
