Deep green lacquer, warm gold-tone ribbed metal, and small red characters give this Dupont a look that really catches my eye. The honest wear makes it feel properly used rather than overly polished, while the strong color combination and French markings give collectors plenty to notice at auction. [Appearance] This vintage S.T. Dupont has a deep green lacquer finish framed by warm gold-tone metal, with finely ribbed vertical sections along the sides and lid. The small red characters on the green panel are a particularly nice detail and add a distinctive accent to the otherwise restrained design. The bottom is marked “S.T. Dupont de Paris,” “MADE IN FRANCE,” and carries a small hallmark. The serial number appears to read P5KB96. There are visible scratches, rubbing, discoloration and wear to the gold-tone finish, especially around the corners, edges and base. The green lacquer also shows light scratches and signs of use. Still, the lacquer retains a rich color and the aged gold-tone surface works nicely with it — this is the kind of honest patina I like on a well-used Dupont.
