Project ‘Difesa della Natura’
Between 1972 and 1985, Joseph Beuys spent several weeks annually in the Abruzzo village of Bolognano near Pescara, to pursue his long-term artistic-ecological project "Difesa della Natura". These were the years in which Beuys propagated agricultural renewal, ecological thinking and environmental protection, quasi early "green ideas" in events and actions.
Hosts in Italy were the art-loving landowner Baron Buby Durini and his wife Baronessa Lucrezia.
As a social sculpture in the sense of Beuys the project "Difesa della Natura" should fundamentally reform not only the aesthetit but also the economic and ecological practice in the southern Italian mountain village.
