After studying history at the University of Paris VII, Stéphane Pencréac'h began painting, sculpture and drawing in the early 1990s, organizing his own exhibitions. His first exhibitions took place at the end of those years.
His work, imbued with eroticism and sensuality, very sensitive to other cultures and contradictions of the time, lies at the borders of an expressionism revisited in a very personal way. His talent is recognized by many critics such as Philippe Dagen (Le Monde), Jacques Bouzerand (Le Figaro), Richard Leydier (art press)...
Stéphane Pencréac'h has worked with some of the most important French galleries such as the Beaubourg gallery founded by Pierre Nahon, the Anne de Villepoix gallery1, and the Vallois gallery founded by Robert Vallois.
In 2012, he was one of the initiators of the sub-realistic movement, along with the Serbian artist Vuk Vidor and the Franco-American artist Kosta Kulundzic, who was staged in reaction to the conceptualization of contemporary painting: for these artists, the image must take precedence over the idea and not the other way around.
In the spring and summer of 2014, the MAMAC in Nice dedicated an exhibition to him, "Painting of History" for which he drew his inspiration from the revolt movements known as the Arab Spring.
