Manjushri is both a Buddha and a bodhisattva – an emanation of Vairocana.
Manjushri is one of the three major bodhisattva, along with Avalokitesvara and Vajrapani. He helps conquer ignorance and find wisdom.
In his male right hand, also known as method hand, he carries a sword that slices through ignorance and brings light into the darkness like a torch. In his female left hand, also known as wisdom hand, he carries the book of transcendent wisdom.
