Remco Campert - Ten lessons with Timothy - Paris - self-published - 1950 (the cover says 1951) - 14 leaves in document folder 28 × 21 cm - edition of 25 copies - numbered (‘één’) - signed with dedication - signed again in 2011 - good.
Ten lessons with Timothy is the extremely rare debut of Remco Campert, who was living in Paris at the time.
Simon Vinkenoog collected the 14 pages - which were stencilled by Rudy Kousbroek on a stencil machine of UNESCO where they worked at the time - in a document folder with a cloth spine, on the front cover a sticker with the title, the name of the poet and the year of publication (in the back the collection is dated December 1950, while the sticker says 1951; apparently it was finished then). In the publisher's imprint the text: “Deze bundel is geinspireerd op de gelijknamige gramofoonplaat van Dizzy Gillespie.” The edition consisted of 25 copies, all numbered no. 1, probably because Campert wanted buyers to be pleased to have the first copy. On p. 2 the dedication: “Voor Simon. Parijs, 5 januari 1950” (=1951) and Campert's signature. Signed again on the title page on 25 November 2011 after the symposium ‘Remco Campert. 60 jaar dichter’ at the Letterkundig Museum Den Haag.
There are 4 copies known of the original edition. This copy shows some discolouration, the spine has some tears; the booklet is well attached to the cover. A good and extremely rare copy.
