Luis Filcer was born in the Ukraine in 1927. His Jewish family left in the 1930s, for fear of the pogroms, they left to Mexico where Filcer grew up. At the age of 17 he started his painting studies at the art academy of San Carlos. He won several art competitions and represented Mexico at various biennales in Chile, Japan and England. After receiving a scholarship, Filcer studied and worked at several art academies in Europe. Filcer also settled in the Netherlands for a while, where he lived and worked for twenty years. Filcer paints the contradictions in man on the social, economic and religious level. His works show us different (unpleasant) human relationships. He shows abuse of power and unbalanced authoritarian relations.
