"Spilled Oranges" ("Oranges renversées") 1921
Signed and numbered (68)
50 x 39 cm
His etchings epitomise the depiction of women during the art deco period.
He created in excess of 500 etchings using a combination techniques including watercolour and dry point with hand colouring as characterised in the book “Buying Works by Icart.” He created full sized etchings, erotic illustrated books, beautiful pastel enhanced lithographs, menu covers, posters, postcards, advertising prints, and oils on canvas.
The paper is heavy wove with no watermark.
The signature (lr) is in crayon and is moderate; the notation (ll) “68” is moderate together with the EM blindstamp. The copyright (ur) reads “Copyright 1921 the F. H. Bresler & Co., Milwaukee, USA,” and the publisher’s notation ((ul) reads “Publié par l'Estampe Moderne, 14 rue de Richelieu, Paris 1921.” The hand colouring in the lips is very good. The foliage in the tree is black as shown in Holland.
