The depicted events with existential motifs are
displayed by means of a painting style that can be apostrophised as “Romanticised Critical Realism.” In this way, an otherwise tragic scenario is deliberately transformed into a romantic, dreamy atmosphere in order to achieve an exaggeration of tension between catastrophe and aesthetics. The works can be summarised under the term “sociology of spontaneous collective identity” and ultimately represent excerpted portraits of society in which the individual reactions of the people involved are also expressed.
