Two rare and silver-plated design candlesticks from the middle of the last century, designed by Gustav Beran for Keltum, the silvering department of Van Kempen & Begeer.
Gustav Josef Beran was born on 17 October 1912 in Vienna, Austria. Gustav Beran was a pupil of the famous Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann at the Kunstgewerbeschule, now the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Josep Hoffman was the co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903. Other famous associates of this studio were Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Carl Moll.
He graduated in June 1933 with a major in metalworking.
15 cm high x 8 cm diameter - the candlesticks can be completely disassembled for cleaning/polishing. Marked with the post horn, the Keltum symbol.
