Armadietto, La cosiddetta "federa Gelderse" - Rovere, ebano e palissandro - 1700 circa
Paesi Bassi, provincia di Gelderland

Beautiful Gelderland bombé chest.
Nice size too, only 183 cm high.
The hood has deep carving - this is traditional for these chests.
Beautiful blackened ball feet.
Revived with rosewood in the fronts of the convex panels and between the convec panels in the horizontal panel.
With early lock and original forged key.
The chest stands nice and high on the ball feet with an arch shape in between.
Fluting in the styles.
In the side of the hood you can see deep carving of so-called knobs in newer 19th century cabinets, these knobs become rudimentary dots.
The hinges are also early, so-called 'short' forged hinges. Always 17th or 18th century.
See also the close-up of the lock - that too is early.
In fact, this chest mainly has 17th century features.
The oak is quarter-sawn all around.
That is also an early and qualitative feature.
Beautiful patina.
The rear leg was replaced later but perhaps as early as the 19th century.
They were mostly done later on. Back wall has also been replaced.

I recommend that if you buy this chest, you also order the book by Loek van Aalst and Annigje Hofstede.
Noord-Nederlandse meubelen van Renaissance tot vroege Barok 1550 - 1670.
In this book you will see examples such as this chest.
A chest like this is cultural property.
