The Lounge Chair, Charles and Ray Eames' most famous creation, was first produced in 1956 and has become a classic in the history of modern furniture.
Made from Charles and Ray Eames' signature organically shaped plywood shells and upholstered in soft leather, the chair exudes modern simplicity, technical ingenuity, and luxury.
Under the direction of Charles and Ray Eames, the Eames office spent 10 years developing the chaise longue with 10 full-time employees. When the chair was launched in 1956, the design was an immediate success. While the lounge chair was also very expensive – even for its time – in the 1950s, the Eames lounge chair quickly became very popular.
The Vitra miniatures are as close as possible to the full-size creations, and because they are handmade, they take a long time to produce.
