According to Catalan legend, the holy martyr, patron saint of the city of Girona where he was buried, would have performed a miracle in 1285. He sent out swarms of flies which rose from his tomb and decimated and routed an army of disbelievers when they tried to desecrate his tomb.
As a true medieval picture book, Dali highlights the elements that allowed the faithful to recognize the chasuble, the mitre, the crosier and a large fly emerging from his chest
