The 17th Division was a Division of the Continuation War established by the Karelian Military and nicknamed the "Oak Division - Tammidivisioona"

On 17 July 1941, Commander-in-Chief Mannerheim ordered the transfer of the majority of the division to East Karelia. At the beginning of the soviet invasion in the summer of 1944, the division was moved from Syvär to Karelia, where it was grouped in the direction of Vyborg. Of the three infantry regiments in the division, two were almost Swedish-speaking. The third infantry regiment and other units were in Finnish.
