Germanus Sincerus was a pseudonym used by several authors in the 17th and 18th centuries and could not be clarified for the author of this document. In his preliminary report, he describes himself as an "ordinarius" who has "served" patients for many years. His warning against exaggerated self-medication seems thoroughly modern: "But I warn everyone very well-intentioned against pharmaco-mania that one does not visit the medical box every day and, in the event of every slight accident, immediately use medicine, as by which the sensus vitalis internus obtunes, consequently nature is made sleepy, so that in time no medicine would work any more" (preliminary report, last p.). The same author later published a more extensive "Medical Handbook for City and Country Wound Doctors" also by Rieger, possibly an extension with a different title. -
