Claude Simon - Le Tricheur [E.O.] - 1945
Visitors' book of the Paris 1889 exhibition abundantly and very richly illustrated with more than 350 engravings, in and out of text, including several in color (double plate of the panorama of the exhibition). Nice copy.
A particularly interesting and comprehensive chapter is devoted to the Eiffel Tower, not only to construction and design, but presenting the various projects that were selected.
The Universal Exhibition of 1889 is spread over fifty hectares in Paris: the Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro Palace welcome art and industry, while the Esplanade des Invalides is dedicated to the exhibitions of the French colonies and the Ministry of the War, making this event the first real colonial exhibition in the history of France. This tenth Universal Exhibition is also a demonstration for French architecture: the Machine Gallery Ferdinand Dutert, the Palace of Fine Arts and Liberal Arts by Formigé, the Palace of Industries by Bouvart; not to mention the reconstruction of the Bastille, since this exhibition had the French Revolution as its theme.
It welcomed 32 million visitors.
