Vibrant lacquer tea caddy 棗 (natsume) with an intricate covering design of stylized plum blossoms 梅 (ume) constructed from inlaid pieces of shimmering mother-of-pearl 螺鈿 in shifting shades of green, blue and pink. Set on brown speckled black lacquer ground.
This continuous on the interior, with three blossoms on the inside of the lid as well. Even the underside with a small raden flower.
Including original signed and sealed wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box) by the artist Tani Shunsei/Toshinari 谷俊成.

Height 5.7 cm, Diameter 7.8 cm.
Period: Japan – Second half 20th century (Late Shôwa period/Heisei period).
