Pretty kakejiku 掛け軸 (hanging scroll) with a multicoloured painting on silk depicting a bijin 美人 (beautiful woman). She walks beneath a cherry blossom tree 桜 (sakura), with petals falling around her. The dimmer surroundings indicate that she is taking a midnight walk.
She lifts the front of her luxurious black kimono to move more comfortably, holding a folding fan in her other hand. Her attire consists of a stunning and costly black kimono with a wisteria 藤 (fuji) motif, complemented by a beautifully coordinated hairstyle featuring matching hair accessories.
The multicoloured painting is set on silk. The mounting is made of different patches of brocade silk. The jikusaki 軸先 (rod ends) are made of bone.

Height approx. 186 cm, Width 44 cm.
Jikusaki: Diameter 2.6 cm.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
Considering its age it in a good original condition with traces of wear conform age, like some horizontal creasing and wear of fabric of the mounting. Water stains along the left edge, and discoloration in the top right corner. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
Including wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box) with inscribed label.
