This bowl has been repaired and accentuated using the traditional Japanese method of kintsugi, which involves applying fine metal powders to highlight a piece's imperfections, embracing and celebrating its flaws.
It is an Ofukei ware bowl adorned with a design featuring a sailing boat and flowering plant. Such glazed pottery was fired at the Ofukei Maru within Nagoya Castle and was referred to as "Ofukei Ware."
This kiln was exclusively utilized by the Tokugawa family for the firing of tea utensils, ceremonial altars, as well as dining and drinking utensils.
