
Ciotola da tè (chawan) (2) - Legno, Terracotta - A signed, high-quality Kiyomizu summer tea bowl, ca 1925 - Giappone - Taishō / Showa
A romantic, tall two-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) by Furuya Icchyô 古谷一晁 (1890-1966) with a colourful painting on shiny golden silk of an autumn landscape. The artwork portrays a serene waterfall embraced by a forest of maple trees ablaze in autumn hues. Below, a tranquil lake with a few mandarin ducks 鴛鴦 (oshidori) floating around. In the distance, a mountain range adorned with pine trees completes the picturesque scene.
Signed and sealed in the lower left corner ‘Icchyô’ 一晁.
Furuya Icchyô (1890-1966) was a prominent Kyoto-born artist known for his achievements in exhibitions like Bunten and Teiten. He began his artistic journey under Master Yamamoto Shunkyo, later graduating from the Kyoto College of Painting. His career was marked by notable accolades, including winning first prize at Bunten in 1909. Furuya Icchyô continued to be a respected figure in the art world until his passing at 74 in 1966.
Protected by a black lacquered frame.
