Biography Unge (1773-1850) An'ei 2 (1773) - Kaei 3 (1850) A Shin Buddhist priest in the late Edo period. Born in Takeda Village, Oka Domain, Bungo Province (Oita Prefecture). His Dharma name was Daigon (大含).The pseudonym is Unge (雲華) and Kōsetsu. He was the 16th abbot of Shogyoji Temple in Nakatsu, Buzen Province. While traveling throughout Japan as a lecturer at the Higashi Honganji Temple, he developed a close friendship with his fellow countrymen Tanomura Chikuden and Rai Sanyo. He excelled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and was especially famous for his paintings of orchids that he cultivated himself.
