Biography Ootori Sessou (1814-1904) Born in 1814 (Bunka 11) and died in 1904 (Meiji 37). A religious leader during the late Edo and Meiji periods, serving as the second superintendent of Ontakekyo. Born in Innoshima, Bingo Province (now Hiroshima Prefecture). Originally a Soto sect monk, he served as chief priest at Kokenji in Echizen and Seiryoji in Hikone, and was known as Tetsumen Seisetsu. He also used the alias Sankou Suichouou. After the Meiji Restoration, he became involved in religious administration and left the priesthood in 1871 (Meiji 4) to turn to Shinto. The following year, he became an official of the Ministry of Religion, later serving as Chukyosei and chief priest of Tokyo Kotohira Shrine. In 1879, he became Daikyosei and served as the second superintendent of Ontakekyo from 1885 to 1904.

Ootori Sessou (1814-1904)

Born in 1814 (Bunka 11) and died in 1904 (Meiji 37).
