The refrigerated container version was used for transporting perishable goods such as dairy and produce, reflecting Japan’s modernization of freight transport at the time. The CHI 1 type, introduced in the early Showa period, was an open wagon designed for light cargo like cement pipes, tiles, and timber. Its compact 10-ton capacity made it ideal for local branch lines and short-haul operations. This TOMIX set faithfully reproduces the unique character of both cars — including the KOMU 1’s container detailing and the CHI 1’s pipe load.
