Corgi - Modellino di auto (4) - Rover 2000, Citroen DS19, Hillman Imp, VW Breakdown Truck - 322, 323, 490 & 328
It’s time for the Corgi Toys models of rally Monte Carlo 1965 and 1966, also included a VW service van to keep them running in the competition.
The rally has been so fierce that the antenna of the Citroen is broken and the spare tyres which have been on the truck bed of the VW have been used so that the rally cars were able to continue the rally.
Two additional decals have been fasten to the Hillman Imp in addition to the original ones.
Including:
Corgi Toys 322, Rover 2000 Monte Carlo, in production 1965-1966
Trans-o-lite system working.
Corgi Toys 323, Citroen DS19 Monte Carlo, in production 1965- 1966.
Corgi Toys 328, Hillman Imp 1966 Monte Carlo, in production 1966-1967
Corgi Toys 490, Volkswagen Breakdown Truck, in production 1966-1972
All the jewelled lights are present.
The rally cars have signs of heavy driving. The decals of both Citroen and Roover are in good shape, the decals of Hillman Imp have some wear. The VW has been treated in a more tenderly way compared to the rally cars. Otherwise all the models are in good condition with signs of wear, both the suspensions and the tyres are crisp. I appreciate mint Corgis but in my mind it’s not a “real” rally car if it doesn’t have signs of rough riding (have a look at the English black and white films from the Monte Carlo rallies of 1965 and 1966).
Please see the photos, which are a part of the this description.

For those who want to know more of the history of the Rally Monte Carlo and especially what happened in 1966:
As background information:
In 1964 the winner of the rally was Paddy Hopkirk and his co-driver was Henry Liddon. Both from the UK. Their car was the sensational BMC Mini Cooper S. Timo Mäkinen from Finland and Paul Easter from the UK won the 1965 rally Monte Carlo. Their car was the same Mini Cooper S which already had won the race in 1964.
1966 was the year of the light scandal. After the rally was driven, the first four ones were disqualified because of using non-dipping, single-filament quartz-iodine bulbs in their headlamps. The three first ones on the podium would have been drivers and co-drivers in their Mini Coopers and the fourth one would have been a team in a Ford Cortina Lotus, all rally cars Made in Good Old England. The real winner of the rally would have been Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter with their BMC Mini Cooper S. As told, Timo was from Finland, but no worries, Finns were doing well in this competition. Pauli Toivonen with his Citroen also from Finland, was declared to first place, a victory he and his team reportedly found embarrassing and for which Toivonen refused to accept his award.
