Historical context: This small silver obol imitates the types of Selge in Pisidia, a city famed for its fiercely independent spirit and distinctive local coinage. The gorgoneion obverse and Athena reverse were common motifs symbolizing protection and martial virtue. This specimen, however, shows the cruder engraving typical of local imitative issues, reflecting regional adaptation and limited minting resources in inland Anatolia during the 4th century BC.
