Born in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, Kindo studied under Araki Juppo 荒木十畝 after moving to Tokyo in 1916 and was given the art name “Kinpo 琴畝.” He exhibited at the Nihonga Art Association and the Japan Art Association before relocating to Ōmuta during the war, where he established the Shiranui Art School and contributed greatly to local cultural development. In his later years, he adopted the name “Kindo 琴堂” and was appointed a member of the Japan Art Institute Exhibition. The first scroll, Tiger in Snow, is hand-painted on silk with wooden roller ends. The tiger, rendered in rich tones of brown and white, prowls through a snowy bamboo grove. Signed and sealed at the lower right, the composition captures the contrast between the tiger’s vitality and the calm, wintry setting. The second scroll, Tiger among Bamboo, is also painted on silk, with resin roller ends. Signed and dated “June 1986 (Showa Year of the Tiger)” with the artist’s seal, it portrays a roaring tiger emerging from dense bamboo foliage against misty mountains, symbolising strength, courage, and protection. Both scrolls come in their original wooden storage boxes, each inscribed with the title on the exterior and bearing the artist’s signature and seal inside. There are minor blemishes and light creases consistent with age, but overall they remain in good used condition. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions of Tigers in Snow: approx. H 119.4 cm W 49.3 cm Dimensions of Tiger and Bamboo: approx. H 199 cm W 60 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
