Rare and nice Double heteromorph Spiny Crioceratites majoricensis from the Upper Hauterivian, zona baleare.
This museum quality Crioceratites specimen were discovered and prepared by a renowned fossil preparator and collector. Many painstaking hours of work was needed to expose the three-dimensional form of the fossil from the matrix.
Note that spines rarely fossilize, are incredibly difficult to prepare and some likely wore off during the ammonite's lifetime.
In this specimen spines have been reconstructed when the specimen is been prepared to show how it might have appeared in life.
Restoration notes: 100% of the spines are reconstructed and glued into their original anatomical position.
Ammonites are in their original position. 2 % restored work on ammonites.
The upper ammonite is 8,5 cm from spine to spine, the lower one is 9 cm from spine to spine.
Matrix is 17 cm x 13,5 cm.
It looks great from every angle and would be an amazing display in a home, office or museum.
