Coppia di lanterne in ottone per altarino domestico (仏壇) — Periodo Taisho a inizio Showa (circa - Ottone - Giappone - XX secolo

Pair of Brass Home Temple(仏壇) Lanterns — Hexagonal Openwork Design — Taisho to Early Showa Period (c.1910–1940) 【Description】 These are traditional Japanese home temple (Buddhist altar) lanterns crafted in brass, believed to date from the Taisho to early Showa period (circa 1910–1940). In Japan, small household shrines and Buddhist altars have long been placed inside homes to honor ancestors and deities, and lanterns like these played an essential role in illuminating the sacred space. During the late Meiji through Taisho eras, oil cups (typically filled with rapeseed oil) were used inside such lanterns to create light. This pair shows natural soot marks inside, indicating that they were originally used with oil lamps — the common practice before electric lights became mainstream in home shrines. (The soot has been cleaned as much as possible.) Crafted with elegant hexagonal openwork and warm aged patina, They symbolize purity and the spiritual light guiding souls toward enlightenment. These lanterns make a beautiful addition to a Japanese interior, meditation space, or antique collection — ideal for collectors of Japanese Buddhist art, antique lighting, or traditional household shrine ornaments. This listing is for a pair. LED candles were used for photography purposes only and are not included. 【Dimensions (per lantern)】 Height: approx. 26 cm Diameter: approx. 14 cm Weight: approx. 750 g 【Important notes before bidding】 This item ships from Japan. Import duties, VAT, and Catawiki fees are not included and are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check your country's customs regulations prior to bidding. Please bid with these characteristics in mind. 【Shipping】 The item will be carefully packed and shipped from Japan with a tracking number. (For example, shipping to France is approximately €45.)
