Full leather binding with gilt decorated spine with 7 raised bands, and marbled endpapers. Later edition (first 1615) of this important emblem book. 1 engraved title vignette and 60 full-page copperplate emblems. The emblems are on recto pages with facing texts: Latin quotations from the Bible with Dutch and French translations as well. Rubbing, bumping, wear, and some damage to the boards and spine. The spine is fraying a bit on both ends. Ex Libris sticker in the front pastedown endpaper Pen and pencil markings and inscriptions in the front flyleaves. Pencil markings on the title page. Several plates had some tears that were mended, some with tape (see photos). There is a tear at the bottom of page 113/114, not affecting the text. Some browning and spotting throughout. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is solid. Overall, a copy in fair condition.
