The beautiful woodcuts were made by Michael Wohlgemut (1434/37-1519) and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (1450-1494), a teacher of Albrecht Dürer. Dürer probably also contributed to the execution of many of the woodcuts for this incunabulum. The beautifully coloured woodcuts of XCIII show on the recto side three consuls: Caius Julius Caesar, Octavianus and Marcus Antonius. On the verso side, it shows the illustrations five beautiful illustrations: 1. The Tiburtine Sibyl, a revered prophetess of Tibur, foretold to Emperor Augustus the coming of Christ and the final judgment, leading him to renounce divine honors and inspire the later dedication of the Church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli. 2. Publius Ovidius Naso, a highly renowned poet. 3. Titus Livius, a great prince of the Greek and Latin historians. 4. Valerius Maximus, a Roman natural philosopher. 5. Solinus, a historian and very distinguished orator. This is not a facsimile edition, but an original leaf printed in the 15th century - so 532 years old! Rare in coloured version.
