Description
A complete set of seven volumes of the German translation of Abbé Barthélemy’s famous historical-philosophical travel novel Voyage du jeune Anacharsis en Grèce.
This is the “Neue wohlfeilere Ausgabe”, the less expensive contemporary edition issued by Lagarde in Berlin between 1792 and 1793.
Contrary to the first deluxe editions, the “wohlfeilere Ausgabe” was often issued without copper engravings, and this set is in the original state as published, with no plates ever bound in. There are no signs of removal, no cut leaves, and the binding structure is clean and complete.
The work was one of the most influential historical reconstructions of ancient Greece in the late 18th century and became a classic in the intellectual circles of Europe.
