Sfagno crestato con muta invernale Allestimento tassidermico a corpo intero - Podiceps cristatus - 33 cm - 23 cm - 25 cm

Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) – In excellent condition – No reserve. A dramatic, interior-styled centrepiece: this impressive winter-plumaged Great Crested Grebe brings the quiet poetry of northern European lakes straight into the room. Its soft brown-and-cream winter coat, elegant profile and characteristic long bill give it a serene, sculptural presence—perfect for a refined natural-history interior. Period: approx. late 1970s to early 1980s Mounted legally and professionally in the Netherlands in accordance with the 1936 Bird Act by high-end taxidermist R. Knol in Sint Maartensdijk (NL). The metal ring visible on the leg is a typical bird-ring from the 1970s–1980s, issued by ornithological organisations or breeders for identification and research. These rings contain coded information such as the organisation’s abbreviation, the breeder’s or ringer’s number, the year code, and a sequential identification number. Dimensions: approx. 33 x 23 x 25 cm Condition: In good vintage taxidermy condition with natural signs of age. Please review all photos for a precise impression. Base: original moss-covered wooden plinth with the historic label “Fuut in winterkleed”. Historical context The Great Crested Grebe is one of Europe’s most iconic waterbirds, celebrated for its elegant silhouette and spectacular courtship dance. In winter plumage, as seen here, the bird loses its ornamental head crests and adopts a calmer, more subdued palette—highly appreciated by collectors for its soft, natural appearance. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, grebes played an important role in natural-history collections across Europe, symbolising wetland ecology and early ornithological study. Shipping Will be packed with great care and shipped with tracking.
