Brewers Paul Cade and Jason Krasowski bonded over their love for a classic cola while creating the Classic Cola Stout. Bourbon County Brand Fourteen Stout 2021 For the first time ever, we dug into the Proprietor’s (Chicago-only release) vault and bringing back a fan favorite with Bourbon County Fourteen Stout. But this time, it’s with a twist. We’re paying homage to the popular Proprietor’s 2014 recipe, but upping the rye ante by adding rye to the mash bill. Layering cassia bark, cocoa nibs, panela sugar, and coconut water, this stout has an intricate, sweet and spicy flavor profile that will have fans going back sip after sip. For this version, the brewers aged Bourbon County Stout in rye whiskey barrels and then added raspberry and blackberry juices and mash from Michigan and Washington. This process resulted in complex, jammy fruit notes that are prominent yet well-integrated with the beer's caramel and chocolate flavors and the spicy rye character from the barrels. Goose Island's Bourbon County Brand Stout 2018 is probably the most popular barrel-aged beer in the world. This is because they started seriously aging their beers in whiskey barrels. While beer used to be stored in wooden barrels, this wasn't done for the flavors imparted by the barrel. Goose Island aged their beer in Maker's Mark bourbon barrels because other bourbon suppliers wouldn't part with their barrels. These days, they'd use all sorts of barrels. The beer has a beautiful toasted character and is rich in flavor, with plenty of vanilla and bourbon notes. The finish lingers and is sweet without being overly sweet.
