Artist Profile Aldo Londi (1911–2003) was born in Montelupo Fiorentino, Tuscany — a town with an unbroken ceramic tradition dating back to the 13th century. He began his career as an apprentice at a local ceramic workshop at the age of 11, developing a mastery of hand-forming and glaze techniques before serving in World War II. Upon returning to Montelupo Fiorentino in 1946, Londi joined Bitossi Ceramiche as its creative director — a role he held for more than five decades. Londi's celebrated blue-glazed ceramic collection, launched in 1955, is characterized by vivid cobalt-and-turquoise glazes and hand-incised geometric patterns inspired by ancient Mediterranean and Moorish decorative traditions.
