Description from the seller
This refined Japanese studio pottery chawan features a beautifully balanced conical form with a richly textured glaze surface reminiscent of natural mineral formations and flowing earth tones.
The bowl is covered in a warm amber-beige glaze accented by countless small crater-like markings and subtle greenish kiln effects, creating an appearance similar to weathered stone or organic landscapes. Its wide open form allows the glaze transitions and firing textures to be fully appreciated from every angle.
The softly irregular rim and hand-thrown structure embody the aesthetics of Japanese wabi-sabi, emphasizing natural imperfection, warmth, and individuality. The underside also displays an expressive carved foot with spiral trimming marks that further highlight the handmade character of the piece.
The wooden tomobako is inscribed with:
「茶碗」(Tea Bowl)
「道祖三十六世」(Dōso 36th Generation)
「景次作」(Made by Keiji)
This piece carries a calm and contemplative atmosphere suitable for tea ceremony use, display, or Japanese ceramic collections.
Condition
Good vintage condition with natural kiln effects, glaze variation, firing marks, and minor age-related wear consistent with handmade Japanese pottery. No major cracks or restorations observed.
Dimensions
Diameter: approx. 15.5 cm
Height: approx. 6.5 cm
Carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
