Description from the seller
Item Description
This elegant Japanese bamboo flower basket (hanakago) is a refined example of traditional Japanese craft, handmade by a skilled artisan in Japan. The body features a classic open diamond-weave (hishi-ami) pattern in beautifully lacquered dark reddish-brown bamboo strips, giving the piece a lustrous, polished appearance. The barrel-shaped body is enclosed by a sturdy circular base, and the graceful arched handle is formed from twisted bamboo strands, adding sculptural elegance to the piece. Viewed from above, the interior reveals a stunning spiral pinwheel construction at the base, showcasing the artisan's exceptional technical mastery.
The basket comes fitted with a removable black lacquered metal water container (otoshi), making it fully functional for ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) or as a standalone decorative object. This piece is ideally suited for both kado (the Way of Flowers) practitioners and collectors of Japanese decorative arts who appreciate the quiet beauty of wabi-sabi aesthetics.
