Description from the seller
この exquisit ceramic piece, characterized by its creamy glaze and irregular green splashes, is a notable example of the Song to Ming dynasty aesthetic (approx. 10th to 17th centuries). Known historically as a chawan (tea bowl), this style of pottery reflects a period of significant innovation in Chinese kiln production, where organic, hand-applied decorations became highly prized for their unique, "one-of-a-kind" character.
The bowl features a pale, ivory-toned or light grey glaze, which serves as a canvas for its most distinctive trait: hand-painted green spots. These splashes were often created using copper or iron-rich pigments that reacted with the kiln's atmosphere, resulting in a rustic and vibrant finish.
It possesses a classic, gently rounded conical shape with a tapered base and a low, compact footring. This design was specifically refined to fit comfortably in the hands during traditional tea ceremonies, a practice that flourished during the Song dynasty.
Weight is 123 gr.
Height is 5,5 cm.
Width is 10cm.
