Description from the seller
-Origin: England.
-Manufacture: Sheffield Workshops.
-Period: Late 19th/Early 20th Century (circa 1890-1915). The design and Gothic typography of the hallmarks place the set squarely within the Late Victorian/Edwardian period.
-Style: Late Victorian with Neoclassical/Regency Revival influences. A style characterized by clean lines, symmetry, and restraint, moving away from the decorative excess of the mid-19th century.
-Ornamentation: A refined, Neoclassical-inspired design, where the emphasis is on the clean lines of the oval shape, finished only with a fine fillet or relief molding around the perimeter (typical of high-end tableware from leading brands of the period).
-Material: Alpaca silver-plated (German silver or Maillechort in France).
-Technique: Electroplating on a cast and molded base metal.
-Hallmarks:
Small and medium trays: These feature maker's marks on the front of the rim:
*A first cartouche with a coat of arms or shield enclosing a stylized animal head, a traditional symbol used in England and the Commonwealth to identify high-quality silver-plated metal pieces.
*A second, elongated cartouche with the initials "EPSF" in Gothic script (Old English), where EP stands for Electro Plated and SF indicates the city of origin, Sheffield.
*Large tray: No visible marks (common on complementary pieces within the same dinnerware set).
-Measurements:
*Large Tray: 34.7 x 22.5 x 2.7 cm
*Medium Tray: 30 x 18.7 x 2.6 cm
*Small Tray: 26.7 x 16.3 x 2.3 cm
-Condition:
The set is in good original condition, unrestored, with normal signs of use and age, as shown in the photos.
-Versatility
This is a highly versatile set, ideal for both functional use at the table and decorative display:
Thanks to its graduated scale of three sizes, it is perfect for complete table service (meats, side dishes, or appetizers), as welcome trays in an entryway, or as a sophisticated decorative organizing element.
