Authentic Japanese WWII officer's katana (type 98) "Shin gunto". The blade was forged and signed in 1942 (dated) by Gendai smith Kanetsugu. The blade has a beautiful "bohi" (grooves) that serve to reduce its weight and to give it its characteristic sound. The blade is "out of polish" and has some fine scratches and stains, a few small chips in "ha-saki", "suhuga" hamon in deep "o-maru"temper in the point. There are no obvious forging errors, no curve in the blade, no crack and the "cutting edge" is sharp. Motogasane": 7 mm, "motohaba": 3 cm, length "nagasa" : 60.3 cm, total length in koshirae: 99.5 cm. The wooden saya is newly varnished, a beautiful sukashi tsuba. The sword is in a good collector's condition. Will be shipped insured (Switzerland, Russia and China not included).
