Writing slope - Mahogany - mid 19th century

Description
Writing slope - Mahogany - mid 19th century
England

This handsome Victorian slope vintage with great polished flame mahogany veneers set off with brass corner and side protectors, unmarked brass cartouche and fab brass escutcheon.

A green felt is fitted to the bottom for furniture protection.

The slope opens on its original brass hinges with brass slope catches and brass lock but no key.

There is a lidded pen tray, sloping stamp tray, small lidded pocket and space for two ink wells, one of which is present.

The slope boards, which retain their original purple velvet, open to reveal two storage areas for correspondence etc. Below the top slope board are secret drawers which are accessed by lifting the partition between the stamp tray and inkwell.

A great old slope which stands well wherever placed .

Measures 17 1/2" x 10" x 6 1/4" (445x250 x 155mm)
