Anna Klumpke, born in San Francisco on October 28, 1856, and died in the same city on February 9, 1942, is an American painter. On 15 October 1889, she met Rosa Bonheur. The two women meet again, then eventually live together at the castle of By in Thomery in Seine-et-Marne until the death of Rosa Bonheur in 1899. Anna Klumpke is the universal legatee of Rosa Bonheur.

Written a few years after the death of her companion, this book is certainly the richest and most complete book on Rosa Bonheur.
