D. Luís de Ataíde, 3rd Count of Atouguia and first and only Marquis of Santarém (1517 - 10 March 1580 in Goa). The second son of Afonso de Ataíde and Maria de Magalhães, he was a great-grandson of the 2nd Count of Atouguia, d. Martinho de Ataíde.
He was governor of Portuguese India and Viceroy of Portuguese India (between 1568-1571 and 1581-1578).
This is an important and quite rare book that describes the history of Portuguese India under Luís de Ataíde, who managed to strengthen the west coast (and important trade routes) of India, and protect it against pirates and other threats.
Condition: fairly good (small piece cut from top right corner of first 2 blank pages).
